Florence’s Padilla Park taking shape

The town expects to invest some $300,000 to transform the vacant land behind Silver King Marketplace into a “multifunctioning” space that would attract people to the downtown area, called Padilla Park. Town staff will further refine the plans for a bid package, and will put out an “RFP” (request for proposals) for design-build services for the park in the coming months. The park could be completed by June of 2014.

The town expects to invest some $300,000 to transform the vacant land behind Silver King Marketplace into a “multifunctioning” space that would attract people to the downtown area, called Padilla Park.

Town staff presented the concept at a Town Council work session on Oct. 21. The park will be named in honor of the late Ophelia Padilla, who owned the vacant lot on the west side of Granite Street. The town bought the Padilla lot earlier this year and will abandon that block of Granite Street to include it in the park.
