Reactions around Arizona to the government shutdown, Schweikert’s office trashed

For Arizonans, the federal government shut down Monday night, but the world didn’t end.

Calls, e-mails and social-media shout-outs to Arizona’s members of the House of Representatives haven’t spiked in the past 24 hours.

Protecting or defunding the Affordable Care Act and preventing or allowing the shutdown didn’t crack the top 10 issues that receive the most feedback from constituents.

They seem to care more about immigration, gun control and Syria.

But Arizonans aren’t apathetic about the government shutdown. They’re just still figuring out what it means for them, said Patrick Kenney, dean of social sciences at Arizona State University in Tempe.

Arizonans aren’t launching petitions or flooding congressional inboxes for three reasons, said Kenney, a professor of political science.
