Taylor Morrison mulling purchase of Maracay Homes

Weyerhaeuser Co. (NYSE: WY) is considering selling off its portfolio of five home builder brands — one of which is Scottsdale-based Maracay Homes — and Taylor Morrison Home Corp. (NYSE: TMHC) in Scottsdale is among a few companies hoping to be the buyer, sources said in a Reuters article Monday.

Federal Way, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser — a timber company at its core — publicly disclosed it was considering a sale of its homebuilder division back in June, but sources familiar with the deal in Monday’s article offered some insight into which potential buyers the company has been in talks with.

Reuters said Taylor Morrison, which went public in April, and Alberta, Canada-based Brookfield Residential Properties Inc. (NYSE: BRP) are among those prospective buyers. But the most serious negotiations have been with Irvine, Calif.-based Tri Pointe Homes Inc. (Nasdaq: TPH), which went public about four months before Taylor Morrison.
