Tobin officially enters race for CD1, will remain as speaker

House speaker Andy Tobin today announced today what many political operative have been whispering about for months: He is running for Congress in Arizona’s First Congressional District.

Tobin, a Republican, made the announcement that he was running for Congress via Twitter, with a link to a new campaign website and a video of his life story, touting his service to the community and ties to rural Arizona.

“Today, Arizona is under attack by the federal government. From Obamacare, forest management, to over-regulation of our lives, it’s clear that Washington bureaucrats don’t understand rural Arizona,” he said in the video.
