Flagstaff’s seemingly unending regional plan process took another step toward completion on Tuesday, as the plan won approval from the Coconino County Board of Supervisors.
The document now becomes a guiding — but nonbinding — policy for how the board makes decisions in areas bordering the city of Flagstaff.
The document is intended to distill a sense of how the larger Flagstaff area wants to grow and develop in the decades to come. It’s supposed to be completed every 10 years.
The Board of Supervisors, as well as Flagstaff voters, legally must approve of the document before it can be adopted.
The contents of the county portion of the Flagstaff plan were assembled from the existing local area plans that residents of unincorporated communities ringing the city had already crafted, according to staff.
