Freezing weather prompts new interest in living in Phoenix

Freezing weather in other parts of the country is enticing more people to look for homes in metro Phoenix.

A new survey from real estate research firm Trulia tracks online searches originating from metro areas in the Northeast and Midwest, where the average daily January temperature was below 41 degrees Fahrenheit between Dec. 1, 2013, and Jan. 21, 2014.

Searches for properties nationwide increased about 2.6 percent for every 10 degree-drop in temperature in cold places.

Phoenix ranked second behind Miami for the jump in home searches from cold-weather areas.
