Surprise interviews 4 city council candidates

former Vice Mayor Jim BiundoBy Jen Lebron Kuhney | The Republic | azcentral.com

The Surprise City Council interviewed four candidates, including two former councilmen, to fill the seat vacated by Councilman Richard Alton.

Alton, who resigned Dec. 31, drew criticism because he moved to California before the end of his term and called into city meetings.

The applicants are former Vice Mayor Jim Biundo; Alton’s opponent from the 2007 election, Paula Forster; a member of the city’s water-working group, Kenneth Hewitt; and former City Councilman John Longabaugh.

A fifth candidate, Deangelo Hall, a member of the city’s tourism commission, could not stay at the Jan. 21 meeting to be interviewed due to a family emergency. He is still eligible for the position, city officials said.
