Dan Harkins, owner of Arizona-based Harkins Theatres, has been watching and hoping for six to seven years for an opportunity to open a theater in Queen Creek and now that time has come. Mr. Harkins made the comments to a couple hundred people at a groundbreaking ceremony Feb. 15 in the Queen Creek Marketplace, on the southwest corner of Rittenhouse and Ellsworth roads.
“When the opportunity came up with Vestar and the Queen Creek Town Council, it was a bull’s-eye,” Mr. Harkins said during an interview prior to the ceremony. He said the population in the region the theater chain considers its trade area finally exceeded 100,000, making it ideal for the new multiplex.
