Florence voters will have their say on whether the town should buy Johnson Utilities in a special election set for May 20.
The Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to hold the special election at a cost of about $12,000. A voter must be registered by April 21 to vote in this election.
Arizona law requires cities and towns to obtain voter authorization before construction, purchase, acquisition or lease of any plant or property of a public utility, according to a report by town staff to the Town Council. Johnson Utilities is the water and wastewater provider in Anthem and San Tan Valley.
