Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport to see first hotel

City and airport officials have known for years that “airports and hotels just go together,” according to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport spokesman Brian Sexton.

But it wasn’t until recently that the growing Gateway-area population — and the recovering economy — made that idea a viable option for developers.

Mesa-based Sunridge Hotel Group announced this month that it would open the first hotel near the airport. Construction of the 99-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel, on Ray Road east of Power, will begin this summer.
