Legal marijuana users would help fund programs designed to prevent others from trying the drug under the terms of legislation given preliminary Senate approval Wednesday.
The state Department of Health Services already collects fees from those who have a state-issued card to use marijuana for medical purposes and from dispensaries that can legally sell to them. SB 1389 spells out those funds should be spent on various programs for “preventing and reducing marijuana use for recreational purposes,” including brochures, TV commercials and newspaper ads.
