After the city council voted March 25 to oppose House Bill H.R. 1410, a local citizen pulled a referendum to gather signatures to put on the ballot for citizens to reverse the city’s stance.
Gary Hirsch, a former candidate for city council, pulled the referendum for Neighbors for a Better Glendale, a group comprised of residents upset with the council’s decision.
“The purpose of the referral is to allow citizens an opportunity to respond to the council’s vote,” Hirsch said. “I think the council’s vote was ambiguous and the proposed casino would be near homes, churches, business and the budget stress this would create on a city that is already near bankruptcy is crazy.”
