Lies about you or your business online? Strike back

defamation

by Melissa Johnson

defamationIf you search “defamation” on any news site, you will see that it is a growing problem. The apparent anonymity offered by the internet has emboldened people to write things that they would never say in public, or even admit to saying. But as much as defamation is a problem for celebrities and politicians, it is worse for business owners.

As the internet becomes customers’ primary – or sole – source of information about businesses, review sites like Yelp or social media can make or break your livelihood. Dissatisfied consumers may think nothing of embellishing the truth to really zing a business. Someone dissatisfied with your business’ response time may claim that you never responded. Customers who think you charge too much may claim that you took their money and gave them nothing. Competing business owners may try to trash your business by posting free, anonymous – and false – complaints online. In today’s competitive market, one negative review is enough to drive away countless potential customers.

Few business owners know how to respond when they are unfairly victimized. The police do nothing. Reputation management companies charge thousands of dollars per month to push negative reviews lower on Google’s search rankings, but the defamatory comments are never really removed from the search index. They can always pop up again later. And reputation management companies do not identify who is behind anonymous defamation.

In their Cyber Law practice, Rose Law Group Attorneys Christopher Ingle and Logan Elia saw these issues coming up over and over and decided to pioneer a better response to online defamation.   They leverage Arizona courts’ unique position on the leading frontier of cyber law to get their clients permanent and gratifying relief. Using these attorneys’ expert knowledge in both the law and internet technologies, they have established a proven history of identifying anonymous defamers and entirely removing their comments from Google’s index of results.
