The Maricopa City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve an increase in the secondary property tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year.
The secondary tax rate would increase about 35 percent from $1.76 per $100 of assessed valuation to $2.3716 per $100, raising about $1.5 million.
City Finance Director Brian Ritschel said the additional money would go toward the debt service on the General Obligation Bond issued to build Copper Sky Recreation Complex.
