Will West Valley get planned malls? Answers scarce

West Valley residents have waited nearly 10 years for two mega malls to open in Goodyear and Surprise.

The proposed shopping centers went on hold when the recession hit in 2008. But Macerich, the developer for both malls, is taking a long time to pull them out of the deep freeze, even as the economy has thawed and looming deadlines could threaten the projects.

Goodyear planners have no more idea about what Estrella Falls regional mall will look like than they did when Macerich unveiled the project in 2005.

But a deadline for the mall to be planned, constructed and open to shoppers inches closer every week, leaving the city in a perpetual state of anticipation.
