Eloy’s contract rejection with chamber causes Akes to resign

The public hearings on the budget and tax levy were eclipsed by a 3-3 vote at Monday’s City Council meeting that rejected the Chamber of Commerce contract with the city of Eloy.

With Council member Belinda Akes, who is also the executive director of the Chamber, abstaining from the vote, there was no majority vote, so the item could not be approved.

Akes, a candidate for mayor, submitted the resignation letter seen below.
