New leadership for Coolidge

The Coolidge City Council will have its first new leader in a while now that Jon Thompson has been elected mayor.

Thompson, a current city council member, defeated Vice Mayor Gilbert Lopez in Tuesday’s mayoral race, gathering 55.89 percent of the vote compared to Lopez’s 43.82 percent. The race received a total of 1,383 votes. Because only two people ran, the race was able to be decided in the primary election, as opposed to going to the general.
