In an abrupt about-face, Glendale city officials might bring county land into the city that they rejected for annexation less than a year ago. Doing so could help Glendale maintain its dominance as the West Valley’s largest city even as other cities have designs on massive expansions.
Bringing the land near Loop 303 and Northern Parkway into Glendale’s borders could pay dividends to a city that has struggled financially.
“This is probably the next largest commercial corridor in the state of Arizona,” said Glendale City Attorney Michael Bailey, who talked to the City Council about the issue in August. “You have the ability to work with developers now to formulate what future development will look like in the western half of Glendale.”
