SRP solar customers expected to be loud against rate plan

SRPA proposed rate increase structure for customers of Salt River Project (SRP) could have a more profound financial impact on solar customers.

Those customers who had contracted to buy or lease solar before Dec. 8 will keep their same rates for 10 years, then be subject to new demand charges and other changes that would add about $50 a month to their bills. Customers who contracted for solar after Dec. 8 would be subject to the new rate structure immediately.

Salt River Project (SRP) will hear public comments on its 3.9 percent rate hike proposal from 6:30-9 p.m. Monday at the Gilbert Public Library, 775 N. Greenfield Road.

Another session is scheduled from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday at Glendale High School, 6216 W. Glendale Ave.

The utility will have a special board meeting starting at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 9, at SRP headquarters, 1521 N. Project Drive, Tempe, at which more public comments can be made.

A final vote is scheduled Feb. 26.
