Five Arizonans made the list of the wealthiest 1,000 global billionaires tracked by Forbes, but that was down from six in last year’s tally.
Bruce Halle, the founder of Discount Tire, may be the wealthiest person in the state, with an estimated net worth of $5.9 billion, ranking in 248th place. Mark Shoen of Amerco was next at $4.6 billion, helped by a stock-market surge for the parent of U-Haul International. Shoen, the company’s largest shareholder, finished No. 352.
Pharmaceutical entrepreneur John Kapoor ($3.1 billion, No. 577), Campbell Soup heir and Valley developer Bennett Dorrance ($2.3 billion, No. 810) and SC Johnson heir Herbert Louis ($2.2 billion, No. 847) rounded out Arizona’s presence among the world’s 1,000 wealthiest individuals.
