Phoenix looks to buy, preserve 172 acres along Interstate 17

The Phoenix City Council will consider a proposal at its Wednesday meeting to buy and preserve 172 acres of land along Interstate 17.

The parcels are located in far north Phoenix west of Interstate 17 north of Carefree Highway and the Loop 303 freeway. The city wants to designate the land a mountain preserve.

The council will decide whether to try to buy the land which is now owned by the Arizona State Land Department and how much to bid when the land is auctioned.
