A tentative budget Pima County supervisors approved on Tuesday includes a 20-cent increase to the county’s total property tax rate.

Despite the tax increase, the tentative budget of more than $1.166 billion is $22.4 million less than the county is spending this year, largely as a result of reduced spending on construction.

The increase in the proposed property tax rate to $5.9637 per $100 of assessed value would, at current property values, add $30.87 to tax bills for the average $152,000 home.

However valuation notices sent out previously by the county assessor show property values are up across most of the county, which will further impact the bottom line when tax bills go out this fall.
