Preliminary work on South Mountain Freeway to begin

The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin soil testing and other geotechnical work this month in preparation to begin construction of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway next year.

Crews will spend eight weeks assessing soil, rock and depth of groundwater along the freeway alignment. The freeway will connect with Interstate 10 near 59th Avenue in Laveen and head 22 miles southeast to Pecos Road in Chandler, meeting with I-10.
