Phoenix city employees are anticipating the arrival of the new fiscal year as they close the books every June 30. Today kicks off the new fiscal year, 2015-16.

The coming 12 months are going to be pivotal for economic development as the city tries to climb out of its doldrums. Population growth is showing signs of acceleration, officials say, but job growth and economic output are lagging. The future burden falls on the city economic developers balancing both existing business expansion and new job attraction.
