Glendale official says rental-car tax ruling won’t impact his city in short

The key funding for Valley sports stadiums took another hit in the courts Aug. 12 when Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Christopher Whitten ruled the state must refund a rental-car tax that was declared unconstitutional last year.

The funds were from a 3.25 percent rental-car sales tax and 1 percent hotel bed tax to make debt payments on the University of Phoenix Stadium. The money also funded the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority, as well as paid for Cactus League Stadiums.
