[OPINION] Surprise proposal hurts effort to build sense of place

Sustainability has become an important issue in community planning, and Surprise emerged as a leader when its voters approved the General Plan 2035 three years ago. Unfortunately, this could be undermined by some General Plan amendments under consideration.

Sustainability entails planning and laying out our communities in such a manner that we can live within our means and be largely self-supporting. It means providing for our needs without impacting the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
