A difference of opinion about “shutting the gate” to Prescott emerged Tuesday, Oct. 6, when the Prescott City Council conducted a public hearing on an annexation of about 1,600 acres of ranchland northeast of the city.
Dozens of residents turned out for the hearing, and sat through more than two hours of discussion about the city’s proposed budget cuts before getting their chance to comment on the proposed annexation.
Several of the speakers repeated concerns that were initially brought up at September’s Prescott Planning and Zoning Commission discussions – focusing on the dramatic population growth that could come with taking the ranchland into city limits.
