Arizona could meet the requirements of the Clean Power Plan with large-scale solar and wind projects already under review in the state, according to a recent analysis from the Sonoran Institute, a Tucson-based sustainability group, and Arizona State University’s Energy Policy Innovation Council.
In August, the Environmental Protection Agency released standards for carbon from existing power plants. Arizona will need to cut its rate of carbon emissions from power plants by about 34 percent. The aim is to reduce emissions of carbon, the heat-trapping gas primarily responsible for global warming.
