Redevelopment efforts in west Mesa’s Fiesta District took another leap forward Monday, with two companies expected to bring nearly 1,500 jobs in consumer finance and insurance to the area, city officials announced.
The $20 million Centrica project — a former Bed, Bath and Beyond, Petco and Circuit City converted into brand-new office space — has landed a single tenant that will lease the entire space just north of Fiesta Mall, officials said.
Santander Consumer USA plans to employ more than 970 workers at Centrica over the next three years, with the first employees moving in by January. The Dallas-based company specializes in consumer financing for vehicles and is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
