Peoria denies it approved mosque construction

After a mysterious post on the Islamic Center of Peoria website stated that the city had given approval to break ground on a proposed mosque and showed plans and drawings for the project near Happy Valley Road and 83rd Avenue, city officials have come out and said that is news to them.

“They are detailed plans and that was surprising to us as well,” said Peoria Director of Communication Bo Larsen. “This actually never went to council; they had a preliminary application meeting in September 2014 and there have been no discussions since.”
