The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office has put its jail commander, Jayme Valenzuela, on administrative leave pending a state investigation, several media sources report.

Superior, where Valenzuela serves as mayor, asked the Arizona attorney general to investigate Valenzuela on suspicion of misusing the town credit card, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday.

The sheriff’s office put Valenzuela on paid administrative leave, as is standard procedure during a criminal investigation, the news release said. Valenzuela has a Pinal County credit card, but no inappropriate charges have surfaced.
