[EDITORIAL] Make it clear that all couples can adopt; Rose Law Group Director of Family Law, Kaine Fisher comments

Arizona has a record number of children in foster care, but Arizona’s Legislature blocked updating state law to make it clear same-sex couples can adopt.

Republican legislative leaders didn’t just keep the door closed on loving couples who want to open hearts and homes to vulnerable children. They slammed it shut at least five times.

Current state law says only a “husband and wife” can jointly adopt children. That excludes legally married same-sex couples.

Putting ideology above humanity

This is not just about outdated language.

Continued:

“I look forward to seeing this situation fixed, consistent with the fairly recent Supreme Court ruling, and what is clearly in the best interest of so many displaced children. I hope this political jockeying subsides, and these legal impediments get straightened out soon, so we can begin to find good homes for the over 17,000 children who desperately need permanence in their lives.”
