Utility drops bid to have all residential customers pay demand charge

A small utility that serves parts of rural Arizona is dropping its bid for new controversial rates for all residential customers, but keeping its plan to move solar customers onto those rates.

UniSource Electric Services, which serves about 90,000 customers in Mohave and Santa Cruz counties, wanted all residential customers to be on a three-part rate instead of today’s standard two-part rate. The three-part rate would add a demand charge to the existing fixed charge and volumetric charge.
