3 running for Florence mayor, 5 for town council
Three Florence residents are running for mayor and five are running for three open seats on the Town Council.
Mayoral candidates who filed before the June 1 deadline are Gem Cox, Tom Rankin and Tara Walter. Rankin is seeking his third term as mayor and Walter, the town’s vice mayor, is completing her first term on the council.
The council candidates are Storm Cox, Michelle Duron, Bill Hawkins, Kristen Larsen and Karen Wall. Hawkins is running for reelection and Wall, who is completing an unexpired term on the council, is running for her first full term.
The primary election will be Aug. 30. If any town candidate receives votes in excess of 50 percent of the ballots cast, he or she is elected in the primary. The other top-drawing candidates will proceed to the general election on Nov. 8.
