AG will investigate speaker’s travel expenses

During the hectic days of the legislative session, House Speaker David Gowan tried to quell questions about his use of state vehicles by repaying $12,000 and asking state Attorney General Mark Brnovich to investigate him.

The AG has taken up the request. Brnovich’s investigators were talking last week to House staffers about Gowan’s use of state vehicles for personal travel — something Gowan attributed to an expense-reporting error by his staff. He said his staff filed for reimbursement assuming he was traveling in his personal vehicle, when in fact he was using a taxpayer-funded state vehicle.
