Avondale: Meet your candidates

Avondale city hallBy Jessica Boehm | The Republic

On Aug. 30, Avondale residents could decide who will represent them at City Hall for the next four years.

The mayoral position and three council seats are on the ballot. Incumbent Mayor Kenneth Weise faces two challengers — his current Vice Mayor Stephanie Karlin and former Councilman Frank Scott. Five people are vying for the council seats. None of those candidates previously have served in Avondale.

Candidates must receive a majority of votes cast in order to be declared a winner during the August primary. If a majority is not reached in the mayoral or council races, voters will decide the winners in a runoff election Nov. 8.
