Goldwater Institute sues Chandler over business-sign regulations on behalf of Michael Pollack businesses

The Phoenix-based Goldwater Institute has filed suit against the city of Chandler over sign regulations it claims violate local businesses’ right to free speech and equal protection under the U.S. Constitution.

The suit, filed Monday on behalf of several Chandler businesses, relies in large part on a 2015 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in a case between Gilbert and a small Presbyterian church. The court deemed Gilbert’s sign ordinance unconstitutional because it applied stricter rules to various types of roadside signs based on their content.
