[Op-Ed] Supervisor Cheryl Chase: Economic development efforts paying off

I am very happy to report to the residents that our economic development efforts are paying off.

In Wednesday’s work session (July 13), one of the top economic development consultants in the state praised the work we have done as a board to bring a focus towards jobs, and not just building homes. Rounds Consulting Inc.’s President Jim Rounds called our economic development efforts “superior.” From someone who counsels state leaders in economic development, this is high praise.

While the supervisors may have laid out the course this county will take; our Economic Development Director Tim Kanavel has taken the lead and has helped Pinal County become a known force, not only in the state, but across the country to companies wanting to start or relocate a business.

One thing that really struck me during Mr. Rounds’ presentation, was his optimism at where we are going as a county. Rounds said that if we keep up the momentum of the past two years, we can expect to be the fastest growing county in the nation. Yes, that’s right – the nation. The key here is that we need to keep up the momentum. With the San Tan Area Planning Study beginning soon, along with the expansion of Ironwood/Gantzel and, of course, our widening of Hunt Highway, District 2 is working hard to keep that momentum going. We are on the right course.
