Surprise City Councilman Jim Biundo will resign Friday after losing his election bid in last month’s primary election.
Biundo, who was appointed to fill empty council seats in 2011 and 2014, lost to political newcomer Jim Hayden in the Aug. 30 city council election.
Biundo was expected to serve the rest of his term, which expires at the end of the year, but submitted his resignation letter Wednesday morning. The letter states that his resignation is effective Friday, but Biundo did not attend a city council meeting Tuesday night.
