APS moves to regional power cooperation

Arizona Public Service joined a western regional Energy Imbalance Market this month, which allows it to buy and sell energy in five-minute increments on a regional trading platform.

A move by Arizona Public Service to join a new energy trading platform will create a more stable, flexible power grid that will allow the utility to better manage renewables on its system, according to the company and one longtime renewable energy advocate.

APS made the move at the beginning of this month to join the western regional Energy Imbalance Market.
