Only in Arizona: After laying fallow for more than a decade in tony Paradise Valley, retro glam returns with an all-new property along Lincoln Drive

Taking stock of classic Rat Pack-era haunts like Colony Palms in Palm Springs, The Sands in Las Vegas and the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles, you must include the old Mountain Shadows Resort on the north side of Camelback Mountain in Paradise Valley.

Period players like Liz Taylor, John Wayne and James Coburn teed off on its verdant fairways, luxuriated by its glistening lagoon-style pool, and soaked up swank desert aura when the 68-acre property first opened in 1959 at 56th Street and Lincoln Drive. Sammy Davis Jr., Lainie Kazan, Bob Hope, Burt Reynolds and other cool kids rocked the lounge into the wee hours until the party ended in 2004.
