[EDITORIAL] Dreamport Villages. (Disclosure: Rose Law Group represents the developers of Dreamport Villages.) A Pinal Central editorial on the prospects of Dreamport Villages becoming a reality. The article notes that the 1,500-acre “destination resort and amusement park… on the edge of Casa Grande Mountain… could be a huge boost to the economy and quality of life in Pinal County.” http://bit.ly/2mmN62A

Condo units starting at $1.5 million rising in Scottsdale’s Silverleaf area. “The 72-home development called Sterling at Silverleaf is a revamp of an earlier $350 million project announced for the site that would have brought 213 condos to the area. Scottsdale-based DMB is partnering with The New Home Co. of Orange County, Calif., to develop the homes that will be spread over eight buildings…” AZCentral. http://bit.ly/2lYLV8u

Paradise Valley Town Council appoints David Sherf to fill vacancy.  “Council interviewed four candidates to fill the [seat left by the departure of Maria Syms] but ultimately decided on [former councilman David Sherf].” For David Sherf’s background along with some of the “challenges [he] believes the town is facing,” click to Paradise Valley Independent. Congratulations to Councilman Sherf — having served on Council until a few months ago he can step right back in and continue his great leadership! http://bit.ly/2lrsUc5

Surprise formalizes international business strategy. “Economic Development Director Jeanine Jerkovic said Surprise International was formalized… when the department began more deeply understanding how to interact with strategic international markets through its Toronto relationships…. ‘[W]e focus on innovation partnerships, business expansion, and real estate investment.’… [T]he foreign focus also represents a conscious shift away from luring most of the American companies looking to locate in the Valley.” More in YourWestValley. http://bit.ly/2m3zBnZ

Surprise! Surprise beats Phoenix in the rent growth race, and so does most of the metro. RentCafe’ looks at Yardi Martix’s metro Phoenix apartment data. See where Surprise and other cities “stand… in terms of rent growth and average rent prices.” —> http://bit.ly/2l5jiYe

New D.R. Horton sales offices indicate more housing growth. “[T]wo applications… for model home and sales office complexes brought forth by homebuilder D.R. Horton [have been approved]. The two complexes will be located in Santa Rosa Springs and Glennwilde subdivisions.” And how much more “housing growth” does D.R. Horton have planned within the two subdivisions? Find out at InMaricopa. http://bit.ly/2lMXhvY

San Tan Valley residents see ‘blueprint for growth.’ “Pinal County hosted two open house meetings last week to gather input from hundreds of residents [on the San Tan Valley Special Area Plan]. The plan is meant to refresh the direction for officials to follow when it comes to the area’s future land uses, roadways, open spaces and more.” And what about “the possibility of [San Tan Valley] incorporation” and what it “ could mean for the plan”? County Supervisor Mike Goodman sheds some light, in Pinal Central. http://bit.ly/2lh8QYX

Theme park ideas that never happened in Pinal County. (Disclosure: Rose Law Group represents the developers of Dreamport Villages.) Over the years, Pinal County has seen plans for amusement and theme parks go from sizzle to fizzle. Check them out and see why “Economic Development Director Tim Kanavel believes Dreamport Villages is on a path toward success” — at Pinal Central. (BTW, here are a few parks that were proposed in other parts of the country but never materialized: Harrison Ford Land: A flight simulation thrill ride where you can experience what it’s like to touch down on a golf course or taxiway; La La Land: Has a midway attraction where, after you win a prize, it’s immediately taken away from you; Tweetland: While on dizzying rides, you can view POTUS Tweets containing alt. facts which will help make your head spin even more.) http://bit.ly/2lrCDyM

Because you are an informed person, as a supplement to the Dealmaker, we are providing you 3 (sometimes more/less) non-real estate related articles we thought you might enjoy!
West Valley economic developers see bright things in region’s future. “[P]anelists at the Phoenix Business Journal’s West Valley Economic Development Forum… say… their communities [Glendale, Surprise, Goodyear] are on the cusp of breaking out to bring more high-wage jobs to residents and cutting down on the throngs that leave the region for work elsewhere.” Details at PBJ. http://bit.ly/2lYGtmf

Scottsdale mayor: No Desert Discovery Center without public vote. “[Mayor] Lane has previously said he supports a City Charter amendment that would force a vote on any preserve construction over $5 million but simplified his message Wednesday [‘during his annual State of the City address’]…. Lane called for unity on the issue that has sharply divided residents for years…’Three letters (DDC) have not packed so much volatility since the invention of TNT’… [The mayor] also addressed criticism related to [a] recent growth spurt, which has brought an influx of urban development to the downtown area and Scottsdale Airpark.” AZCentral. http://bit.ly/2mDd2Dh

Can government employees criticize the government? “It’s a question that many federal workers are asking as they look for ways to express opposition to their new boss but keep their jobs.” (OTOH, the question White House staffers are probably asking is, “Hey, Sean, when can I have my phone back?”) Governing looks into a “dilemma” that it says is “so complicated that the U.S. Supreme Court has revisited the debate several times.” http://bit.ly/2lYHdrx

Phoenix soccer team makes case for league expansion. “Phoenix Rising… submitted its bid… to join MLS as an expansion franchise in the 2020 season..” Co-owner and board member Tim Riester: ’We have the net worth and ownership group, we have the stadium solution… ” Arizona Daily Independent. http://bit.ly/2lOLNX8

Newsmaker BONUS: Investigative State. “With generous endowments, including a $25,000 grant from the Arizona Community Foundation, AZCIR is poised to keep reporting for another year. Not all journalistic start-ups in the Valley have been so successful…. It’s a dismal picture on its face, but many in the biz insist the state of investigative reporting isn’t that dour. Rather, it’s adapting.” Phoenix Magazine. http://bit.ly/2lYRaoWLike The Dealmaker by Belfiore & Rose Law Group on Facebook
