Salary needed to afford a home in popular U.S. markets

According to the National Association of Realtors, the amount of existing homes available on the market in June decreased by 7% from the previous year to 1.96 million, which has further pushed up home prices. Business Insider staffer Tanza Loudenback reports on the site’s list of U.S. metro areas where the minimum salary to qualify for a mortgage is highest.

In the twenty-third market, Burlington-South Burlington, Vermont, the median home cost is $288,000 and the average salary needed to buy a home is $53,444.
