Surprise council will hear temporary sign beta test tonight

Local realtors have been vocal at every discussion of the long-term sign code.

Surprise may approve a temporary fix to the uproar caused by its temporary sign policy.

The City Council is expected to hear and vote tonight on a temporary sign policy dealing largely with small A-frame signs used by realtors for open houses. Community Development Director Eric Fitzer said, if approved, this section of the sign code update would serve, in effect, as a “beta test” of the most contentious portion of the policy.

Under the temporary sign policy adopted in February by the council, temporary A-frames are not allowed. Consequently, local realtors have been vocal at every discussion of the long-term sign code.
