Peoria’s future development heading north

In 1965, the City of Peoria contained 2.5 square miles; in 1975, 7.0 square miles; 1985, 30.8; 1990, 63; 2000, 153.2; and 2017, 180.

The population in 1954, the year the city incorporated, was 1,924. In 2016, according to figures calculated by Maricopa Association of Governments, Peoria had 171,100 residents. By the year 2040, MAG projects the city to have a population of 278,000.
