Former White House correspondent and veteran journalist Judy Woodruff had some choice statements for journalists and for President Donald Trump during an appearance in Phoenix Thursday.

“I am not an enemy of the American people,” said Woodruff, to the applause of hundreds of people gathered for the presentation of the 34th Annual Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism given annually by Arizona State University.

Two ‘groundbreaking journalists’

Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication has presented the award every year since 1984. A third-floor ballroom at the Sheraton Grand Phoenix was packed on Thursday afternoon for the presentation and remarks from Woodruff.
