NASCAR fans check out PIR changes ahead of this weekend’s races

The pop-up city of RVs and campers filled with thousands of NASCAR fans at PIR is taking shape ahead of this weekend’s races, and fans are getting their first look at a $178 million makeover underway at the Avondale racetrack.

The most notable work, which aims to improve the fan experience, won’t be completed until next year.

American flags fly high above the RVs and tents at Phoenix International Raceway, and fans were getting comfortable setting up their folding tables and chairs, grills and satellite TVs on Tuesday afternoon.
