Ask a lawmaker, and you’ll be told that water policy will be an important topic this legislative session.
But it’s still unclear to some of those lawmakers, and to the general public, what types of policy changes the Governor’s Office will push for.
Gov. Doug Ducey’s State of the State address did little to advance the water conversation. He mentioned the state’s water policy prowess and noted how prudent planners allowed Arizona to avoid the water crisis California experienced.
“This session, we must follow their lead and put forward responsible policies that ensure Arizona speaks with one voice to secure the state’s water future for generations to come,” Ducey said.
Beyond the platitude of “speaking with one voice,” the Ducey administration hasn’t said much publicly about what its policy plans will be.
