BASIS charter school to take over Great Hearts school in Scottsdale, Phoenix Business Journal reports. It will take over a building occupied by Great Hearts Academies.
Phil Handler, vice president of communications BASIS Educational Ventures, said the move saves having to invest in a new campus.
The Journal says plans call for subleasing the property from Great Hearts in time to open this fall. It will serve grades K-4.
The new school, located on the northwest corner of East Tierra Buena Lane and 76th Street in Scottsdale, will be called BASIS Scottsdale Primary – West Campus.
Great Hearts has been building a $23 million K-5, 16-acre campus and sports complex on 10 acres next to its Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, serving as a new home to Archway Scottsdale and an athletic field for Scottsdale Preparatory.
Great Hearts serves more than 15,000 students at 28 schools in the Phoenix metro area and in San Antonio and Irvine, Texas.
Both BASIS and Great Hearts are two of the top-ranked charter schools in Arizona.
