In the heart of downtown Phoenix, hidden by rows of new, high-rise apartment buildings, sits a quaint midcentury building with a slanted roof and 18 square windows carved into the front.
It was Phoenix’s first Orthodox synagogue. Now, it’s a fenced-off and faded structure that has hosted only one High Holiday service in more than 30 years.
